Ekenäs gymnasium

Ekenäs gymnasium is the largest upper secondary school providing general education for Swedish speaking students in the Raseborg area in the southwestern part of Finland. The school is situated in the small picturesque town of Ekenäs (Tammisaari in Finnish), where earth and water blend against the background of splendid archipelago.
The history of Ekenäs gymnasium reaches back to the year 1905 when the coeducational school, Ekenäs samskola, was founded. The school has recently celebrated its centenary and is today one of the most popular upper secondary schools in the region. It has some 270 students of whom 240 are attending the full upper secondary general school syllabus; the remaining 30 participate in subject studies.
Ekenäs gymnasium is also known for its large network of international contacts, student friendly atmosphere, and large variety of courses. Thanks to the non-graded system, which was introduced at Ekenäs gymnasium in 1988 already, the students have a great freedom to compose their own programs from slightly more than 260 different courses. The school’s objective is to support the students’ growth into good, balanced and educated individuals and members of society as well as to provide them with skills and knowledge needed in further studies, working life, hobbies, and all-round personal development.
